At that time, I was a freshman in my university: Wuhan University (which was one of the top 10 universities in China). When I saw the planes hit the "twin towers" on TV, I found myself crying. The second day, I wrote something mourning the deceased and their despaired families on the bbs of my class, but to my surprise, someone were so glad to see this happened and judged me to be like some one as a betrayer.

Why? Maybe to the people of the US, it is hard to understand, but many of us in China still remember the days that our embassy in Yugoslavia was bombed "mistakenly" during the Kosovo War by the US air force. And that strike killed a married Chinese couple who worked for the embassy. All these happened in 1999 when I was in high school. The next day, I saw parades of college students walked with grief and indignation, and that day can never be swept away from my memory.

So, when I pasted my mourning on the bbs, there were replies soon after that, many of them were trying to "remind" me what the US government did in 1999, and to them, 9/11 was what the US deserved, they should pay the price for what they did to the people in other countries.

Actually, I did not want to get involved into any political issues, in my opinion, the behaviors of the terrists are inhumane no matter what they are asking for, no matter whether they are just or evil in your eyes. On the other side, even if their government did something so wrong, the people of the US are innocent, they are not the ones who should be responsible for their government's "inappropriate" policy. But that was just my point of view, many of the replies that day just ignored the aspect of humanity and glad to see that the US was punished severely.

I felt frustrated after I read replies, although there were many posts supporting the people of the US, still a large portion of them are "celebrating". But as time passed by, I start considering them as just naive and ignorant, because they don't know what to cherish in their life...

Now, five years has passed, most of people already forget what happened that September, 2001, not to mention the bombing and the parades in 1999. But we still has a wide gap between these two countries. The ever expanding influence of the nationalism in my country makes me worried about the relationships not only with Japan (we had a very complex relationships with this country), but also ... the United State. I don't know if there is a way to change the trend right now, all I can do is trying my best to influence the people of my age around me - not to act like those blind nationalists.
